If someone disagrees with your Music taste you should burn the house down and take them to the river . If you don't get that then you haven't listened to enough 70s music . Hahaha

I apologise in advance for the rant...

I think 'real music' is pretty much any noise that is organised to sound nice, or to dance to. Some rap and heavy metal crosses the line, in my opinion lol. What sounds 'nice' is obviously completely subjective, so... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Funny how often the 'embarrassing' music is the most popular - Celine Dion and ABBA being perfect examples! I'm slightly obsessed by this Celine Dion song atm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtusS5_1SNM&feature=related
No idea what the video is about though!

I think part of the reason music like Celine Dion is considered lame or whatever is the perception that it's escapist - that the way love is portrayed is unrealistic. (Kinda like perception of fantasy novels actually.) I'm not going to comment on how realistic Celine Dion's love songs are, lol, but I don't have a problem with escapism anyway. And really, how realistic are songs like 'Promiscuous Girl' and 'Sexyback'? It's all art, just different styles.

I like feeling cool and individual for liking obscure/uncool stuff, but it's also nice to have your taste vindicated by popular opinion. Even though I CAN do it, I get sick of *cliche alert* having to justify stuff I like to myself. I rarely get hassled but you can't help being aware of the uncoolness of some things. I'd be angry at mass media, but that's where Bones comes from so... Maybe the answer is to find a good mixture - stuff that is cool, stuff that just isn't, and stuff that you think would be if anyone else had heard of it. Or maybe it's to stop thinking about it and just listen to whatever makes you happy. :)

Rant officially ends here, because it's midnight and I suspect I've lost my ability to distinguish relevant comment from waffling crap.

Stop worrying about what he meant. To each his own. who is he to have an opinion on the kind of music you like. And even if he does have an opinion, there is no good reason you should be caring about it. Listen to the music you like and don't care a damn of what others think.

I'm actually not sure WHAT my opinion on this topic is, I've never really thought about it before! o.O
I can see why the guy pissed you off though. I'd probably have thought the same as you.
This is why I don't tend to discuss this kind of thing with people - I have no idea what I think and tend to dig myself into holes, and besides, how much does it REALLY matter? Earbuds are the greatest inventions ever, people should just listen to whatever they like and other people shouldn't worry about it. :)
*shrugs and wanders off*
