Are there any particular worlds in books where you’d like to live?
Or where you certainly would NOT want to live?
What about authors? If you were a character, who would you trust to write your life?
(This came to me when reviewing a Jonathan Carroll book – I’m not sure I’d like to live in the worlds of his books.)
I don’t usually do Booking Through Thursday, but I saw this one on Jenny’s blog and thought it looked like fun, so here goes.
1. I’d quite like to live in Little Women; I always loved the whole family dynamic and the boy-next-door thing lol. I would also quite like to have been friends with Judy Abbott in Daddy-Long-Legs. And of course the lost continent (does that make it an incontinent?
) of Zamonia out of Walter Moers’ books – Tyrannomobius Rex, Troglotrolls, Mini-pirates, Wolperting Whelps, Olfactils, Alpine Imps, Nocturnomaths with seven brains…awesomeness! Hogwarts would be pretty fantastic too – I always wished that the whole wizarding world was real. And the Hundred Acre Wood! *tries to stop*
2. There are lots of places in books that I wouldn’t want to live; Virginia Andrews’ world especially!
3. Hmm…. ooh! Lewis Carroll! How much fun would that be! Or Walter Moers. Anyone who can give me adventures in a strange world with odd creatures who play with words is fantastic!

I loved Daddy-Long-Legs. Dear Enemy, the sequel wasn’t near as good.
Little Women would have been a wonderful place as well. How could you not love the boy next door? Although Beth’s death was oe of the saddest moments in literature.
Lol! I THOUGHT you might pick Little Women!
I almost did as well, but then I thought “Well, how can I NOT mention Wicked somewhere!?”, so Oz won. Just. SO long as I can be all sparkly and pretty like this:
I second the not wanting to live in V.C Andrews’ Land. That would suck even worse than Jane Austen Land. :/ *hopes I do not start having nightmares*
Hmm. I think I just had “image insertion FAIL”. :/
I meant this: http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site36/2007/1026/20071026__20071028_F8_AE28THMOORE~p1_400.JPG
Interesting blog entry . If I may my answers would be the following .
1) One of the better Star Trek incarnations that have appeared in novel form .
2) Choose Your Adventure Books . I would be at the mercy of the reader . Hahaha
3) Nicholas Monsarrat . I very much enjoy his portrayal(SP?) of characters in his book The Cruel Sea .
Luke: Hahah! Living in a Choose Your Own Adventure book is something that never even crossed my mind! I don’t know if I’d like to live in one though, who knows what might happen to me!? :O
@ Breezey: ditto on Beth’s death – I cried SO much. I get around that bit though – outside of the States (don’t know if that’s where you’re from) ‘Little Women’ only refers to the first half of the whole book that is ‘Little Women’ in the States – the second bit (which starts just after Mr March gets back from war and they all have Christmas together, even Aunt March) is called ‘Good Wives’, which is the section where Beth dies. So I’m picking the rest-of-world Little Women lol, before the sad stuff happens! And I didn’t know that Daddy-Long-Legs even has a sequel *searches*
@ Holly: the sparkly stuff would be awesome, but slightly impractical lol.
@ Everyone: well done for not picking on me for doing BTT on a Saturday
Lol at incontinent! You’re brave – I’d stay well away from anything Lewis Carroll related! Hogwarts would be awesome. Way better than Middle Earth lol.
Luke: Interesting answers! I went with Star Trek too. Enlightened, hygienic, and lots of shiny technology. =) Choose your own adventures would be awful. I always ended up falling down a crevasse or something.
Brooke: I did! I was going to do it too, and then I thought “Meh, too late now!” I’m not quite THAT unobservant! Just tactful. Unlike someone else we know! I has TACT WIN!
