I just sat down at my computer and discovered a pile of mail by the printer. Mail addressed to me, which apparently came while I was away. Mail that nobody bothered to inform me about! I am quite glad that I found it, because in the pile was a parcel from Canteen containing the bandannas that I ordered online about five weeks ago and that I was about to ring them up about next week to find out where they were. I think that would have resulted in me feeling epic stoopid. So now I have three bandannas! Yay! One is pink with hibiscus flowers on it, one is blue with kowhaiwhai patterns on it, and one is white with pohutukawa flowers on it. *grows another two heads so I can wear all three at once*
Today my thumb is almost back to full texting strength. Yesterday I was sitting inside catching up on Coro St (yay! Evil Casey has been put away! And Sarah got one over on evil David!
) and my mother kept going in and out through the outside-loungeroom door and leaving it open. So I got up and, holding onto the hinge-side of the door frame for balance, reached out and grabbed the door handle, pulling the door closed. Unfortunately I failed to notice that my thumb was sitting between the door and the frame on the hinge side until AFTER the door was nearly closed and had inflicted a considerable amount of pain on my thumb knuckle! No real outside damage, just a cut which hardly bled (but now seems to be wet with something that is not water…), but it hurt like a bitch! I remembered my fifth form PE lessons and applied RICE for like 3 hours, which seemed to reduce the swelling (it’s still a bit bigger than my left thumb though, and is an odd colour around the cut). Sadly I don’t think I’ll have a scar
And tonight the stiffness is almost all gone, just a bit of teh owie when I bend it too far or knock it on something.
And now you all know more about my injured thumb than you ever wanted to know!
Tonight I had the house to myself so went to the video store to get a couple of films out. I went in for ‘Benny and Joon’, ‘Now and Then’ (both seen before and rather favourites), and ‘Edward Scissorhands’, which scared the crap out of me at 8 and I now feel that I should see again. ‘Edward Scissorhands’ was out, as was ‘Benny and Joon’, and they didn’t even own ‘Now and Then’ (sacrilege!). So I came out with ‘Penelope’ and ‘Corpse Bride’, neither of which I had seen before. Strangely, they both turned out to have the theme of setting someone free, and both featured piano-playing heroes and heroines. I really really liked ‘Penelope’, although I have to say, the whole curse thing = not so ugly akshully. Everyone in Penelope-land must be very very shallow. I thought the snout was actually quite cute. But then it was a movie, not real life. Maybe I’d be more taken aback by it if I met someone IRL with a pig’s snout. Christina Ricci does NOT look 28. Or 25, which is how old she’s supposed to be in the film, and how old she was when it was made. But she’s good. Reese Witherspoon has teh awesome lol, her character is cool. According to IMDB, Christina Ricci didn’t audition, Reese Witherspoon (whose production company made the film) asked her to play Penelope. And the gorgeous James McAvoy stars, which is always a plus. Hmm. I just realised that all the films that I had planned on seeing and actually did see featured either Johnny Depp or Christina Ricci lol. ‘Corpse Bride’ I liked. The story was cool, the animation was awesome (especially seeing in the special features how they did it) and the voices were great. But I found it a little busy maybe. Or maybe I’m just not the target audience (obviously, since I found it in the children’s section). I think it’s worth seeing, but I don’t think I’ll be buying it on DVD.
Haha I’m talking to Holly on msn as I’m writing this and she had a moth on her shift key. Which (of course) led to me quoting our 7th Form English text ‘The God of Small Things’ by Arundhati Roy (which I highly recommend, BTW). The main character’s grandfather Pappachi was once the Imperial Entomologist in India, and discovered a new species of moth with ‘unusually dense dorsal tufts’ (which was the quote I remembered, although I had to get my copy to check that I was right lol). He never gets the credit though, which is given as a sort of reason in the book as to why he’s bitter and violent. *epic geek* (although I have read the book more frequently and more recently than I think Holly has lol).

LOL at the bandannas! Who knows, if you HAD rung them to ask what had happened to them they might have assumed they’d gotten lost and set you more! Then you’d have had to grow 5 more heads!
Ow at your thumb! I haven’t jammed my hand in doors for YEARS, and I hope I never do again! I did however, overload the washing machine this afternoon! I THINK it’s fixed now though…*watches carefully*
LMFAO at the moth.
Ooh that sounds painful!
I haven’t seen any of those films, although I did hear most of The Corpse Bride from my room when my family watched it.
Lol at “unusually dense dorsal tufts.”
@ My favourite Cone Head what colours are the bandannas ?
I once managed to get a finger caught in a window that I was closing . At the time the tip of my finger went black and I lost a finger nail . @ Holly what happened to the moth ?
Jenny: Lol! This moth’s dorsal tufts weren’t particularly dense, in fact they were so teeny I could hardly see them!
Luke: Ouch! That sounds even more painful than Brooke’s! As for the moth, I’m not sure. The reason it was hanging around me last night was because I was sitting in bed talking to Brooke with my light off, and the only light was coming from my laptop, and moths like light, so when I turned it off it disappeared.
@ Holly: is the washing machine fixed now? Lol. Overload how? Too many clothes or too much washing powder?
@ Jenny: I highly recommend Penelope! Also, next sleepover ‘Now and Then’ and ‘Benny and Joon’ WILL be on the bill lol (I’ve already warned Holly
)
@ Luke: I think I mentioned the bandanna colours in the OP: One is pink with hibiscus flowers on it, one is blue with kowhaiwhai patterns on it, and one is white with pohutukawa flowers on it. The missing fingernail sounds epic owie – I’m quite glad that I got my knuckle stuck and not the end of my thumb.
