The other week I went all teenybopper and relived my late-primary school years by downloading a whole bunch of music, including Steps, B*Witched, Aqua, S Club 7, Hear’say, and Billie. I had most of these already, but on cassette tape (why, yes I was a child of the 90s, how could you tell?
) which don’t work so well on the ol’ iPod. I put them all on one playlist and have been enjoying them possibly a little too much lol (have been bouncing around the house and singing along), but this is my favourite overall so far (it’s been on repeat a LOT). I was never a huge fan of Billie at the time; I was more a Britney girl, but she definitely has teh awesome now. She admits she is not a great singer (just watched an interview with her where she was asked how the music career happened, apparently she got spotted by some producer when she was in an ad campaign and the guy tracked her down and asked her if she could sing. She told the interviewer, ‘I lied, and said ‘yes’.') but I really like her as an actress (which I think I have mentioned before on this blog) and she seems pretty down-to-earth and cool from what I’ve seen of her.
Anyway, here is my song of the moment, enjoy the awesome 90s-ness of the dance moves and fashion and don’t think too hard!

I don’t think I remember this song! I saw her acting in a TV series awhile ago too, and also remember being surprised by how good she was!
Apparently she always wanted to be an actress, not a singer. When she got ‘discovered’ she was attending Sylvia Young Theatre School, which I gather you have to be pretty good to get into, so I guess it’s not surprising that she’s talented drama-wise.
Interesting. I didn’t know that! One would wonder why on earth she took up singing to begin with then!? o.O
She was the poster girl for a ‘Smash Hits’ magazine/tv show ad campaign I think (probably related to being at Sylvia Young) and some music producer tracked her down and asked her if she could sing (which was when she ‘lied and said ‘yes” lol) and I think the music thing went from there. She was about 13 or 14 when that happened. Apparently she hated the music business, was really diffident about her singing ability so never sang live in the UK, and suffered from depression and anorexia. She didn’t end up with much from her music career due to dodgy contracts and apparently-unscrupulous managers/producers/whatever. Somewhere in the midst of that (aged 18) she married a famous radio DJ who was 16 years older than her and went incognito for a couple of years. Then they got divorced and the media made a big deal out of her not wanting anything from the divorce (he was mega rich) and then she started on Dr Who (I think). She’s still quite young, only 26 I think. She’s married again now and has a son called Winston lol. Very interesting person IMO, I just put her autobiography on my to-read list.
@ Cone Head not my kind of song I am glad that I don’t live with you given that you were singing it around the house . lol
