Rain and Sunshine and a Party

Yeah that’s pretty much what my life has consisted of in the past week.  Oh and a First Aid course actually!

In chronological order:

Rain
Last weekend (and some of last week), it rained.  Like, westcoastrained.  Mainly on Tuesday, which, miraculously, I had off work (it’s not usually my day off.  Thank you rostergods).

Party
Having Tuesday off was also a good thing because a workmate had his 21st on Monday night.  I was feeling a bit dodgy on Monday (headaches, etc) plus my Amazon order arrived that day (season 5 of Bones, entirely unwatched by me!) so wasn’t planning on going but Lochie (flatmate) was going so I thought I’d be social for a little bit and decided to go for half an hour or so.  The first half hour or so was kind of uninspiring but I decided to persist for some reason.  Kinda glad I did coz I ended up having a pretty awesome night (entirely sober, might I add!).  Had good conversations with people I’d never really talked to before, said some benignly-inappropriate stuff (one guy, who’s new at work, commented a couple of times that girls don’t talk like me!  Three times the same guy managed to come into conversations I was having halfway through.  The first time I had just said ’animal sacrifice’, the second, ‘incestuous’, and the third time I can’t quite remember, but it was along the same lines ) and generally had a great time.  Made a knowledge-swap agreement with one guy (who I think I kind of like, but haven’t quite worked out whether I think he’s cute in a ‘I want to pinch your cheeks’ way or a ‘I want to pinch your bum’ way, (no, I can’t take credit for that analogy, Polly is responsible) edged slightly closer to the bum end of the spectrum when I discovered he did astrophysics papers at uni lol) he’s going to re-teach me calculus, and I’m going to teach him how to do cryptic crosswords.  *nerd*  Rocked up at home at 2am (outlasted Lochie, which NEVER happens) and had a fab sleep.  Good night. 

First Aid
Wednesday and Thursday this week I got sent to a workplace first aid course in the next town down, with three other workmates.  A few others attended, including a girl who knew a friend of mine who used to work here (small small world).  I remembered basic stuff like ABC and CPR, but learnt a lot of new things too.  It was great spending time with workmates outside of work too, they were people I like but for whatever reason don’t normally socialise with.  Invented the term ‘hangry’ for one workmate (when you’re so hungry that you get angry), and made jokes about the ‘bulging in his overalls’ line in one of the emergency scenarios we were given (was actually referring to a dislocated shoulder.  I am SO grown-up )

Sunshine
This doesn’t happen very often here.  Or, hasn’t been happening here lately, anyway.  I was on a full day trip yesterday, took the last group, in glorious sunshine all day.  Cut lots of steps (for me, anyway) and had an awesome group (they talked to each other!  Like, the 40-ish woman chatted to the Israeli backpackers and her husband chatted to the 20-something asian girl, etc).  New track in, nice and blue and skinny.  Epic day.  Apparently my group enjoyed it too – I went to jug night at the local after work and one of my clients (a quite-camp Malaysian dude, who was probably the coolest person in the cool group) spotted me and gave me two high-fives, then told the folks I was sitting with that they were lucky to be my friends   I felt kinda cool lol. I also got slightly sunburnt on my arms. I never bother with sunscreen on my arms coz they’re slightly tanned and haven’t burned before. But apparently the summer sun (as opposed to winter sun!) is here already. Factor 60, here I come!
